looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluation Question 6 Answer Part 2

Evaluation Question 6 Answer Part 1

What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of creating this product?

Photoshop is the most common use for editing pictures and creating media products like my own. Also, InDesign is another, which is good for writing in columns and getting them in the same size columns. Both are good quality and professional.
However, when you are creating a magazine, you want it to be the best possible magazine available on the market. You need to find out if the magazine is right for your target audience. Questionnaires/surveys is a good way to find this out. Typically surveys would be done on paper and handed out by hand to which I have used this technique in my feedback, however, nowadays, online is the best way to do it, especially with my own target audience. I have to understand what my target audience do and what is the best form for getting feedback from them, hence why most of my surveys are done online. By using websites, it also makes it quicker and easier to get results. I used both techniques to ensure that I got a range of people as not everyone would find the survey through the internet. Recently, there has been advertisements of Survey Monkey on the TV so this will gain recognition of the websites that are available to use, then for my questionnaires and then also to my magazine, so it is good using this sort of technology in different ways.
To talk about my magazine and it's progression I have used Blogger which is a site that you can create your own blog on and post just about anything on it at any point anywhere, so it's quick and easy. This is a good way of getting visuals of the progression of the magazine and also a chance for the audience to see it and say if there is something that could be changed or added. Blogger has allowed me to become a prosumer in the age of Web 2.0. I consume texts from the internet, however I also produce texts which can be seen by a global audience. Means of presentation varies; I have used Slide Share and Prezzi to show slideshows, as well as emaze and slid.es. Podcasts are another form which are also used in other websites and music magazine websites.
Varying methods of presentation is also good through sites such as Prezi and Slideshare, videos through Youtube.
Using the internet and technologies through this is a good technique for my magazine not only because of it's ease but also it reaches my target audience due to them being young which young people often use the internet. This helps build status for the magazine and popularity.
All of the techniques I have used are online, therefore I have learnt that the popularity of the internet is growing and how it is far easier and cheaper to do these techniques through it. I have also understood that people prefer visuals of what is happening rather than just writing and so this is good to keep in mind for the future.

Evaluation Question 4 Answer Part 5

I have also recorded a podcast of my own views on my magazine and whether I'd change anything etc.

Evaluation Question 4 Answer Part 4

I filmed a female member in order to get opinions from the view of both genders, as they may think differently and have different thoughts about my media product.

I decided to change my font as this is what a member of my target audience has suggested. However, where my work was saved, I had some technical difficulties and therefore I am unable to follow this advice.

Evaluation Question 4 Answer Part 3

I have asked a male member of my target audience to look at my work and answer my questionnaire. His answers are below as he would not agree to be in a video.

1. How old are you?
19

2. Would the cover of this magazine attract you? Would this make you want to buy the magazine?
This cover would attract me.

3. Why?

I like the photograph of the attractive female used and she seems like an artist I would potentially listen to. This would make me inclined to buy the magazine.

4. Do you like the name of the magazine and the font of the name on the cover?
The name RIOT is very powerful and grabs the readers attention. I like it in the font it is in as it doesn't seem too messy on the cover. Everything does not look a mess and everything else on the cover can stand out instead of using a font that would be more out there.

5. Do you think the artist of the front cover relates to the target audience/you?

I believe the artist relates to the target audience as she looks as if she is within the same age group as us. I feel like girls would want to be her and boys would want her.

6. Do the bands/storylines on the cover appeal to you?I listen to a lot of the bands that are written on the cover and this would make me buy the magazine. The arctic monkeys poster advertised as free in the bottom would also grab my attention and make me buy this issue.

7. Does the contents page make it easy to find things in the magazine? The contents page definitely makes it easy to find things within the magazine. The band index labels the page numbers that the bands are featured on and therefore helps a lot.

8. Is the contents page detailed enough? The contents has a lot of interesting stories and interviews that I would enjoy and it isn't too crowded compared to other magazines I read.

9. Do you think my three pages follow a running house style/theme throughout? There is definitely a theme running through the magazine as two of the pages are heavily blue and have hints of red, which is the main colour used in the article.

10. Are the photos used in the magazine appropriate to the style/genre(alternative/indie)/stories?The photos used relate to the story used in the article and I think the artist suits this genre. the clothing and makeup she is wearing makes her seem more alternative, which is exactly what the genre is. On the contents, there are photos of bands which have been photographed live. These link with the genre as they are all bands which fit into the genre of indie/alternative and also go with the story of biggest bands of the year and also tours that sold out in less than an hour.

11. Which page of the magazine is your favourite? My favourite page of the magazine is the cover.

12. Why do you like this page the most? The photo used would make me buy this magazine and it is the first thing everyone will see. I like the fonts used and also the colour as it addresses the partial audience of males well.

13. Which page of the magazine is your least favourite?

The contents page is my least favourite.

14. Why?I like the link between the cover and article as the main story is advertised on the cover. This is the main reason people will buy the magazine.

15. Can you suggest any improvements that could be made on this page in particular?

The colours could be less harsh and a bit brighter. However this would need to be done on the cover also as there is a running house-style.

16. Can you suggest any improvements that could be made throughout the whole of my magazine?
Other than the colours being less harsh, there is nothing else I think I would change in this magazine.

Evaluation Question 4 Answer Part 1

What would the audience be for your media product?

Reader Profile Repost - Using Photoshop, I created a reader profile containing the interests and likes of those

who would read my style/genre of magazine.

I believe the items on my magazines reader profile are items that my target audience either use or like. These items may be advertised in the magazine, or mentioned briefly. Other magazines are featured on my reader profile as they are other magazines or issues of magazines which my target audience would like.

As my primary target audience is more of a younger generation, their income will be considerably low compared to a mature adults income. My magazine is mostly targeted towards working class males, and a few middle class, however it could also attract the attention of some females. This means that most of their money will most likely be spent on alcohol and clothes etc.
